Datapoint: Blue Shield of California Program Sees $20 Million in Rx Savings

Blue Shield of California last week said its partnership with tech company Gemini Health has resulted in $20 million of drug cost savings in its first two years. The initiative supplies Blue Shield-affiliated providers with real-time drug cost and formulary information “so that they can discuss with their patients and collaborate to reduce drug costs,” according to a news release. The insurer said about 77,000 providers have access to the platform. Blue Shield of California is the fourth-largest insurer in the state, with 3,243,720 members.
