Datapoint: Bright Health to Exit Exchanges, Slash MA Presence
Struggling startup insurer Bright Health last week said it will exit the Affordable Care Act exchange markets entirely for the 2023 plan year, and cut back its Medicare Advantage presence to just two states — California and Florida. The company said it will focus instead on its value-based care delivery business to ensure profitability in 2023. “The changes announced today give Bright Health a strong and stable platform for profitable growth at much lower risk,” CEO Mike Mikan said in a press release. “This is one more strategic step to building a differentiated and profitable business at scale.” Bright Health currently serves 944,705 exchange members across 15 states.
