Datapoint: California Exchange Plan Rates to Rise 2% in 2022

Covered California, California’s state-based exchange marketplace, will see average premium rate increases of just 1.8% for the 2022 plan year, officials said July 28. The state pointed to its healthy risk pool and record number of sign-ups for the low increase. Throughout 2020 and 2021, more than 250,000 people signed up for coverage amid the COVID pandemic and the state’s special open enrollment periods, bringing California’s total number of exchange lives to 1,630,747. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan currently leads the market, with about 650,000 members.
