Datapoint: CareFirst Launches Virtual-First Medicaid Pilot

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield on April 7 announced an expansion of its partnership with CloseKnit, a virtual-first, advanced primary-care practice. CloseKnit’s virtual care services, which include 24/7 access to provider visits, care coordination for chronic conditions and assistance with navigating in-person visits, will be available to select CareFirst Maryland Medicaid members as part of a pilot program, with the goal of reducing costly in-person urgent care and emergency room visits. CareFirst previously partnered with CloseKnit for its commercial members during the COVID-19 pandemic. CareFirst currently serves 82,226 managed Medicaid members in Maryland.
