Datapoint: Centene Selects Express Scripts as PBM

Centene Corp. last week said it selected Cigna Corp.’s Express Scripts to serve as its pharmacy benefits manager, beginning in 2024. “Selecting our future PBM partner represents a major value creation plan milestone and positions us to capture significant value for our members, partners, and stakeholders in 2024 and beyond,” CEO Sarah London said in the company’s third-quarter earnings release. Centene is transitioning away from its in-house PBM, Envolve, following multiple lawsuits alleging Centene overcharged state Medicaid programs for prescription drugs. Centene currently covers 17,144,851 members, with 68.6% enrolled in Medicaid.
