Datapoint: Could HCSC Buy Cigna’s MA Business?

Health Care Service Corp., (HCSC) the parent organization of Blue Cross and Blue Shield affiliates in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, could be interested in purchasing Cigna Healthcare’s Medicare Advantage business, Bloomberg reported Nov. 29. That purchase could clear the way for Cigna and Humana Inc. to combine by year’s end, the outlet added. HCSC’s Blues orgs currently enroll 156,967 MA and dual eligible lives combined. Cigna, meanwhile, ranks in the top 10 for MA nationally, with 587,125 members.
