Datapoint: Elevance Pauses Louisiana Blues Deal

Elevance Health last week put its planned acquisition of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana on hold, with plans to revisit the deal in early 2024, according to a Sept. 25 report from Nola.com. National Blues leader Elevance is facing significant pushback from state regulators and provider groups, who are unhappy with the deal’s incorporation structure. Both companies in a joint statement said they “remain committed to refiling the plan of reorganization and acquisition application.” The Louisiana Blues insurer is currently the second-largest in its home state, behind UnitedHealthcare, with 1,056,454 members.
