Datapoint: Express Scripts Launches “Fully Transparent” Drug Pricing Model

The Cigna Group’s Express Scripts on April 13 announced the launch of its ClearCareRx pricing model, which promises complete transparency, enabling private sector and government employers, as well as health plans, to “pay exactly what Express Scripts pays for drugs.” Clients will receive 100% of drug rebates that Express Scripts negotiates and will pay a single fee for PBM services, pharmacy benefits administration, reporting and analytics. Additionally, Express Scripts introduced its Copay Assurance Plan, which limits copays for prescription drugs to $5 for generics, $25 for preferred brand medications, and $45 for preferred specialty brand drugs for plan members enrolled in the program. Express Scripts currently controls 24,197,456 pharmacy lives in the U.S., making it the third-largest PBM nationally.
