Datapoint: Humana to Pick Up Walmart’s Retail Clinics

Although Walmart Inc. earlier this year announced plans to close its retail health clinics, Humana appears to be stepping in to fill at least part of the void. The company said on July 24 that its health care services business, CenterWell, plans to lease clinical space and open senior- focused primary care centers at 23 Walmart Supercenter stores in Florida, Georgia, Missouri and Texas. The new centers — operating under the CenterWell Senior Primary Care and Conviva Care Centers brand names — “will be conveniently located next to Walmart stores in clinical office space that was formerly occupied by Walmart Health,” a press release noted. Humana said it expects the centers to open no later than the first half of 2025, and it did not disclose financial terms of the agreement. Humana is the second-largest MA insurer in the U.S., serving 6,061,157 MA and dual eligible members.
