Datapoint: North Carolina Sets Medicaid Expansion Date

North Carolina’s long-awaited Medicaid expansion is set to begin Oct. 1 — but budget talks could delay implementation until December, according to a July 26 report in Politico. State lawmakers (who are on break until Aug. 7) must approve the funding as part of the state’s 2023-24 budget by Sept. 1, but infighting along party lines could cause delays. North Carolina currently serves 2,383,515 Medicaid beneficiaries. About 600,000 people will become newly eligible under expansion.
