Datapoint: Rhode Island Awards Medicaid Contracts

Rhode Island awarded Medicaid contracts to just two payers — program incumbers UnitedHealthcare and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island — following its latest procurement process. Point32Health and would-be newcomer Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island were not selected. “While we work to better understand the state’s assessment, we remain committed to collaborating with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services and to building healthier lives and communities in Rhode Island,” a BCBS spokesperson told the Rhode Island Current. Point32Health, meanwhile, had served the state’s Medicaid program as Tufts Health Plan since 2016. Rhode Island currently serves 266,459 beneficiaries via managed Medicaid.
