Datapoint: South Dakota Votes to Expand Medicaid
South Dakotans last week voted in favor of bringing Medicaid expansion to the state. The measure passed with 56% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. Under expansion, about 40,000 people will become eligible for Medicaid benefits. South Dakota currently serves 117,334 Medicaid lives, a significant increase from a pre-COVID total of about 88,000 lives. South Dakota is one of a handful of states that continues to facilitate Medicaid benefits under a fee-for-service model.
