Datapoint: Intermountain, SCL Health to Merge

Two nonprofit health systems, Salt Lake City’s Intermountain Healthcare and Broomfield, C.O.-based SCL Health signed a letter of intent to merge, according to a Sept. 16 press release. The combined organization would operate 33 hospitals and 385 clinics, creating an $11 billion system. Intermountain operates Utah’s largest insurer, SelectHealth, which currently enrolls 32.2% of the state’s overall insurance market with 820,656 lives. SCL’s facilities span Colorado, Kansas and Montana. Executives at both companies said they expect the deal to close in early 2022.
