Datapoint: Washington, D.C. Finalizes Medicaid Contracts

Washington, D.C. council members on Oct. 18 voted to award its hotly contested Medicaid contracts to three payers; Elevance Health’s Amerigroup (a new entrant), AmeriHealth Caritas and MedStar Health, according to the Washington Post. Notably absent is CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, which had been protesting the new contracts for years. The District currently serves 272,494 Medicaid beneficiaries, entirely via managed care plans.
