Carl Humes is MMIT’s vice president of client services, joining the company in April 2021. He is responsible for all client implementation and support, leading the advisory, market research, client delivery services, data intelligence, client support and bridging teams.
What’s your day to day like?
I typically meet weekly with all of my direct reports. I’m also highly involved with our new product development process, so I work very closely with our product and technology teams. I try to keep my finger on the pulse of all the client projects we have underway. We have hundreds in process at any given point in time, and I try to maintain visibility into how we’re servicing our clients.
What are some of the larger projects you’re working on?
Because our commercial team is so successful at selling our solutions, our projects cut across every product and service that MMIT offers. Project delivery schedules can range from one day to many months, and often there are periodic scope expansions as MMIT’s data is expanded and augmented.
What’s been the biggest challenge of the last nine months?
I’d say one of the largest challenges is the fast pace of change. My team has to implement everything on the horizon, whether it’s a new product that we’ve developed internally, a new service we’ve come up with like bridging, or something like the sale and implementation of Pulse from the Dedham Group. There’s a lot of change coming quickly and I have to adapt my team to those changes.
What’s been your biggest win so far?
Bringing all of our diverse delivery and support teams under one umbrella and seeing them collaborate and innovate together. Things were more siloed before, and now we operate as a cohesive team using common systems.
How is MMIT uniquely positioned to handle the rate of change in the health care and pharmaceutical industries?
There are several mechanisms. One, our growth through acquisitions helps us serve our clients more broadly. Second, our nimble product development processes allow us to quickly meet the markets’ needs. And third, we lead with Technology Enabled Services, which allows us to drive product innovation from direct client engagement.
Where do you see MMIT five years from now?
Ten times larger than we are today servicing clients worldwide.
Which company principle resonates most with you?
Integrity, truth and reality. This most resonates with me because it closely mirrors my personal conviction to always do what is right, not what is easy.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Working with our employees. I think we have such tremendous talent and we have people who know this industry well, and are deeply committed to the mission of smoothing access to therapies. I just enjoy interacting with the people that I work with.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m a big outdoors person. I spend a lot of time outside in all different seasons, whether it’s hunting, fishing or hiking, if I’m outdoors, I’m happy.
